System Requirements:

• Adobe After Effects 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022
• Windows 10/11 (64-bit) or macOS
• 4GB RAM minimum (8GB+ recommended)
• 50MB available disk space
• Enable “Allow Scripts to Write Files and Access Network” in Preferences > Scripting & Expressions

Installation:
Copy the script file to your After Effects ScriptUI Panels folder:

• Windows: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects [version]\Support Files\Scripts\ScriptUI Panels\
• Mac: /Applications/Adobe After Effects [version]/Scripts/ScriptUI Panels/

Access via Window menu > SVG2AE

Import SVGs as After Effects Shapes

Drag and drop your SVG files (single or multiple), and they will be imported into After Effects as Shape Layers.

Limitations

• Works only with Shape graphics with closed paths.

• Multiple-page SVGs are not supported.

• No support for gradients, patterns, or unexpanded fonts.

Unexpanded = not converted to paths. To convert in Illustrator, select text and go Object > Expand.

Setup

• The easiest way to install is with the aescripts + aeplugins manager.

• You can also install with the ZXP installer.

• In After Effects, enable: Edit > Preferences > Scripting and Expressions > Allow Scripts to Write Files and Access Network

Usage

• Create a New Composition

• Go to Window > Extensions > SVG2AE

• Select the Timeline panel (Important!)

• Drag and drop one or multiple SVG files into the SVG2AE window

• Each file will be imported as a Shape Layer

Version & Settings

SVG2AE v2.0 — Built with CEP8. Requires After Effects CC 2018+ (15+).

By default, temporary files are written to your Documents folder. If it’s locked, set a custom path in the cogwheel menu.

Note: Layer names from the original SVG will not be preserved.
