Dynamic Grooming for Blender
Dynamic Grooming v0.67 for Blender – The Ultimate Real-Time Hair & Fur Styling Suite
Version: V0.67
File Size: 10 MB
Download Dynamic Grooming v0.67 for Blender on Windows and Mac, a powerful interactive toolset designed to bring the speed and tactile feel of dedicated grooming software (like XGen or Ornatrix) directly into the Blender viewport. With real-time brush feedback, dynamic collision detection, and advanced clumping algorithms, Dynamic Grooming transforms how artists style characters, creatures, and organic assets, eliminating the slow “tweak-render-tweak” cycle of native particle systems.
Key Features of Dynamic Grooming v0.67:
- Real-Time Interactive Brushing: Style hair instantly with a suite of specialized brushes (Comb, Smooth, Clump, Cut, Puff, Frizz) that update the guide curves in real-time as you stroke, providing immediate visual feedback.
- Dynamic Collision & Deflection: Prevents hair from intersecting with the scalp or body mesh automatically; guides bounce off or slide along the surface during grooming, ensuring realistic volume and preventing “sink-in” artifacts.
- Advanced Clumping Engine: Simulates natural hair grouping by attracting neighboring strands to guide curves with adjustable noise and variation, creating realistic locks, dreadlocks, or wet-look styles without manual placement.
- Multi-Layer Support: Manage complex coats (e.g., underfur, guard hairs, eyelashes) on separate layers with independent density, length, and material settings, all groomable simultaneously or in isolation.
- Sculpt-Mode Integration: Switch seamlessly between sculpting the base mesh and grooming the hair; the system can optionally update hair root positions if the underlying topology changes slightly.
- Guides to Particles Conversion: One-click conversion of your groomed guide curves into a high-density final particle system or Geometry Nodes instances, preserving all styling, clumping, and variance data.
- Animation Ready: Supports dynamic hair simulation (wind, movement) based on your groomed shape, with options to bake the simulation for game engines or render sequences.
- Vertex Group Masking: Paint masks directly on the scalp to control where hair grows, its length, density, or stiffness, allowing for precise balding patterns or styled cuts.
- Optimized Performance v0.67: Significant improvements in viewport FPS when working with high-guide counts (10k+), better memory management for multi-layer grooms, and smoother brush falloff curves.
Perfect For:
- Character Artists creating realistic humans, animals, and fantasy creatures for film and games.
- Creature Designers needing complex fur patterns, manes, and feathers with distinct layers.
- Stylized Animators crafting exaggerated hair shapes for cartoons and anime-style characters.
- VFX Studios requiring fast iteration on hero character looks under tight deadlines.
- Anyone frustrated by the laggy and unintuitive nature of Blender’s default particle editing mode.
System Requirements:
- Blender: 3.6, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3+ (Latest LTS recommended).
- OS: Windows 10/11 (64-bit) or macOS 10.15+.
- RAM: 8GB minimum (16GB+ recommended for dense multi-layer grooms).
- Graphics Tablet: Highly recommended for pressure-sensitive brush control.
Installation:
- Download the Dynamic Grooming v0.67
.zipfile. - Open Blender and go to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons.
- Click Install…, select the downloaded file, and enable the checkbox next to Curve: Dynamic Grooming.
- Access via the Object Data Properties panel (Green Curve Icon) > Dynamic Grooming Tab or the dedicated sidebar in the 3D Viewport.
Note:
Version 0.67 is a crucial stability update that introduces “Guide Interpolation,” allowing you to work with fewer guide curves while maintaining smooth transitions in the final dense render, significantly speeding up the grooming process. It also adds a new “Dry/Wet” slider per brush stroke to simulate the look of oiled or water-matted hair instantly. Note: As this is a v0.xx beta/early access tool, frequent updates are expected to refine the physics engine further.

The pro version comes bundled with several presets to make the hair creation even faster.
This addon enables you to Style hair particles using dynamics, using shapekey and using default blender comb tools from a pie menu.
With the shapekey you can create animation, making the process to animate faster, because you won’t have to keep tweaking the dynamics to reach a certain results, now you can sculpt the results for a specific frame.
Tutorial on version 0.63
- 0.64
- Added option to control the enable of 3d brush, auto switch and brush scale from 3d hair brush addon
- 0.63
- improvement on the layer selection (selecting on the list, select the layer)
- layer control added to the pie menu
- fix to delete option (was not working properly when the layer was renamed)
- 0.62
- Adding option to lock layers using the panel and pie menu (to avoid changes on children and hair shape options of that layer)
- cycle through hair layer from pie menu
- locked the active layer, if the hair layer is hidden from the viewport (to avoid messing with the wrong layer by mistake)
- 0.61
Several fixes, more options on pie menu, ui optimization (collapsible shapekey menu)
- 0.6 Final
Export only children settings
Export only hair shape settings
Auto generate incremental file if there is already one with that name (importing or exporting file settings)
Finetunnig the UI (
Option show/hide emiter in viewport,render
Toggle render hair particles to Strand or Strip (better preview of hair)
Global and local checkpoint (you can save temporarily a children or hair shape config, or copy and paste it into another particle system)
- 0.6 Beta 8 Fix on the Selection Root +, and added “Linked” Selection on pie menu
- 0.6 Beta 7 More fixes, Shapekey for hair particles (and more bugs introduced when I added ShapeKey for hair particles 😅)
- 0.6 Beta 6 More fixes, reorganization of particle edit option, it was added inside the Hair options, added button to sync display and render segments to the ones on the particle system. Added Rekey and unify length options
- 0.6 Beta5 lots of bug fixes. Update on children particles and vertex groups when apply to more than one particle hair.
