Joysticks ‘n Sliders is a pose-based rigging system for After Effects with limitless applications.

The new version will work the same in all previous versions of After Effects back to CS6, however in CC2018 you can now rig and animate your pathShapes without ever needing to use the update pathShapes tool!

(If you are using mask variable feathering, you will still need to bake pathShapes, as these are not yet supported in the revised CC2018 expression library.)

Joystick controllers are commonly used in 3D character rigging for facial animation. With this tool, you simply set five consecutive keyframes to represent your origin, right, left, top, and bottom extremes. With those layers selected, you can instantly create a joystick controller on the stage that will interpolate between those extremes appropriately.

For many characters, you may want to have replaceable parts like mouth packs for different angles. Joysticks ‘n Sliders lets you create a Swap Template to help you automate the swapping of those assets according to your joystick’s position.

Sliders are similar in setup to Joysticks. While sliders may feel more technical than joysticks for controlling your animation, they can be much more powerful. Unlike joysticks, there is no limit to how many poses you can create with your layers. Additionally, you can mix them together in any way you wish. This is great for rigging hands, eyes, mouths, or even a set of poses for the entire body of a character. It can even be used for motion graphics and abstract animation.

This is a free update to users of previous versions of Joysticks ‘n Sliders. To upgrade, go to your account profile, then to My downloads and licenses. From there you can download the new version which should work seamlessly with your pre-existing license. Install by moving the new jsxbin file and assets folder into your ScriptUI folder. You may overwrite your existing files or save version 1.2 in its own folder and set it aside.
