MudRock Procedural Materials for Blender

MudRock Procedural Materials for Blender – The Ultimate Geological & Terrain Texture Suite

Versions:  v2.0
File Size: 22 MB

Download MudRock Procedural Materials for Blender on Windows and Mac, a specialized library of 100% procedural shaders designed to generate hyper-realistic geological surfaces without the need for external image textures. From wet riverbed mud and cracked desert earth to layered sedimentary rock and jagged volcanic scree, this pack leverages advanced noise algorithms and displacement logic to create infinite variations of terrain materials that remain crisp at any resolution, eliminating UV stretching and tiling artifacts common in bitmap-based workflows.

Key Features:

  • 100% Procedural Generation: Every detail—from macro rock formations to micro-grain sand—is generated mathematically using Blender’s native nodes. This means infinite resolution, zero texture memory usage, and no pixelation even in extreme close-ups or 8K renders.
  • Dynamic Crack Systems: Specialized nodes simulate realistic desiccation cracks (drying mud), thermal fractures (volcanic rock), and stress fissures. Controls allow you to adjust crack depth, width, pattern randomness, and “mud curl” elevation.
  • Wetness & Saturation Logic: Unique sliders to dynamically transition materials from bone-dry to saturated/muddy. As wetness increases, the shader automatically darkens albedo, lowers roughness, adds specular highlights, and simulates surface water pooling in crevices.
  • Layered Sedimentation: Create complex stratigraphic profiles by stacking layers of sand, clay, silt, and stone with adjustable erosion boundaries, perfect for cliff faces, canyon walls, and excavation sites.
  • Biome Presets: Includes 40+ pre-configured material presets categorized by environment: Arid Desert, River Delta, Volcanic Field, Alpine Scree, Coastal Mudflat, and Cave Floor, each fully tunable.
  • Displacement & Bump Integration: Built-in high-frequency displacement setups work seamlessly with Cycles Adaptive Subdivision, creating true 3D geometric detail (pebbles, ridges, footprints) rather than fake bump mapping.
  • Vertex Color Masking: Use vertex paints to blend between different material states (e.g., painting “wet” areas near a riverbank or “mossy” patches in shaded crevices) directly on the mesh.
  • Tri-Planar Projection: All materials use automatic tri-planar mapping, ensuring seamless texturing on complex, non-uniform terrain meshes without the need for manual UV unwrapping.
  • Animation Ready: Parameters for drying, cracking, flooding, and freezing are keyframe-ready, allowing you to animate seasonal changes or environmental events (e.g., a mud puddle drying up over time).
  • Game Engine Compatible: While procedural in Blender, the pack includes a “Bake to Texture” utility to export high-quality Albedo, Normal, Roughness, and Displacement maps for use in Unity, Unreal, or Godot.

Perfect For:

  • Environment Artists building realistic terrains, forests, canyons, and planetary surfaces.
  • VFX Studios simulating geological events like landslides, earthquakes, and drying floods.
  • Game Developers creating modular terrain kits with unique, non-repetitive surface details.
  • Architectural Visualizers adding realistic ground conditions, landscaping, and excavation details to site plans.
  • Concept Artists rapidly iterating on different soil and rock types for world-building.
  • 3D Printing Enthusiasts generating high-resolution displacement maps for tactile terrain models.

System Requirements:

  • Blender: 3.6, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4+ (Latest LTS recommended).
  • OS: Windows 10/11 (64-bit), macOS 10.15+, or Linux.
  • RAM: 8GB minimum (16GB+ recommended for heavy displacement previews).
  • Render Engine: Optimized for Cycles (for accurate displacement and subsurface scattering in wet mud); compatible with Eevee (using baked normal/height maps).

Installation:

  1. Download the MudRock Procedural Materials .zip file or .blend asset library.
  2. Open Blender and go to Edit > Preferences > File Paths.
  3. Under Asset Libraries, click the + icon and navigate to the extracted folder.
  4. Name it “MudRock” and enable the checkbox.
  5. Open the Asset Browser, select the “MudRock” library, and drag-and-drop materials directly onto your terrain objects.

Note:

MudRock Procedural Materials stands out for its “State Transition” capability. Unlike static texture packs, these shaders understand the physical relationship between water and soil. You can animate a single “Hydration” slider to watch mud turn to dust or rock become slick with rain, making it invaluable for storytelling and dynamic environments. The pack also features a “Micro-Detail” toggle that adds fine grain and pebble scatter only visible in close-ups, optimizing performance for wide shots while maintaining fidelity for hero assets. Whether you are creating a parched wasteland or a lush river valley, MudRock provides the geological authenticity needed to ground your world in reality.

WHAT IS MUDROCK?

MudRock collection gives you a big load of mud, clay, dirt, stone, and lava materials. You simply create your models, choose a MudRock material from the included N-Menu Addon Darth Manager, put it on your models, tweak it a bit to make it perfect, set the lighting up, and smash render!

Working very well with Blender 3.0!

This pack is great for both stylized PBR and realistic art and because I made it for my stop-motion project, all materials have great texture animation controls.

WHAT’S SO GREAT ABOUT IT?

  • The materials are 100% procedurally generated, which allows you to create VAST mud puddles and dirty planes, with no texture repetition.
  • You can connect your own textures and masks to create realistic or stylized footprints, symbols, and wheel prints.
  • All the materials have easy-to-navigate settings and you can quickly change them.
  • They work both with Cycles + Eevee (but it’s made for Cycles mainly, it’s not optimized for Eevee)
  • The animation engine inside makes this pack a nice addition to your stylized / stop-motion-like CG toolset.
  • There are randomizers, which can make the texture seed and speed a bit different for each object. This is great for environments.
  • The node trees (shaders) allow you to create your own mud/clay/dirt materials in no time.
  • The pack is Royalty-Free and you can use it for commercial purposes.

WHO IS IT FOR?

  • Animators, who specialize in CG stop-motion projects
  • Illustrators working with PBR materials
  • VFX Artists making anything with ground/mud/dirt
  • Graphic Designers
  • FX Artists who are making an epic mud-ball fantasy spell, that creates an orb full of mud, which gets bigger and bigger and it eats everything in its way until the entire kingdom doesn’t have any sunlight due to the super-large shadow, and the harvest is totally ruined, so the people finally take the farming tools and kill the dragon which they were too scared of before, to eat at least something, only to be buried alive after the great mud-ball falls because the wizard holding it in the air wanted to stretch out a little, which canceled the spell
  • Any Blender artist who likes to explore the world of procedural textures
